Fat & Smoke Buckskin Hide Tanning Class: August 28-31
Spend a long weekend learning the traditional craft of transforming a raw deer skin into buttery soft, durable buckskin. We will gather just outside Addy, Washington, this hands-on workshop guides you through every stage of the fat and smoke tanning process from start to finish.
Throughout the weekend, you’ll work on your own deer hide while gaining practical experience with the tools, techniques, and timing involved in creating quality buckskin.
By the end of the course, you’ll head home with your finished buckskin along with the confidence and knowledge to continue tanning hides on your own.
The workshop is held at our outdoor tanning grounds. Participants will also have access to a shared outdoor kitchen and bathroom throughout the weekend and access to camping onsite. Dinners will be offered on a rotating potluck.
A hearty lunch featuring locally sourced meats and vegetables is provided each day. Please let us know about any dietary needs when registering. Additional information about the location, what to bring, and weekend logistics will be sent after sign-up.
Schedule
- First day begins at 9:30 AM.
- Daily class hours are 9:30 AM–5:00 PM, with a lunch break.
- The workshop concludes after dinner on the final evening.

Space is intentionally limited to keep the class small and hands-on.
